the six guys an immigrant trans person of colour will date in melbourne

“This is a story of Men. and Sex. and Dates. and Love. Fucking Love.”

A new work by Dax Carnay, a transfeminine, non-binary writer and performer from Manila on life, love and dating as an immigrant trans person of colour in Melbourne, the seven-time voted “most liveable city in the world”. Part of La Mama Theatre’s 2023 Midsumma Season.

From Dax
I am still trying to wrap my head around the thought that people believe in this little thing that resulted in my one-week manic slash existential crisis. Why the fuck would you be interested, more so (in the case of the team) band together to make this shit happen. The things I wrote here are nothing new. Well, to me. To be honest, the lived experiences where this play is based from, I am starting to get sick of it. It’s tough, rude, harsh and plain old stupid. I totally get why some people get over it sooner than expected.

But it is here, and obviously, a story people want to hear.  This is good because at least people are willing to listen to someone who are not them. Go beyond the comfort of the echo chamber that this their close-knit social circles.  Social media is not the real world, people. So I appreciate you putting your phones down and seeing the world with your actual eyes.

“D has written a truly modern feminist fairy-tale. Six Guys is an insightful unpacking of the prince charming complex conditioned into many young femme people and a heart-warming answer to the abnegation of self it encourages.” – Theatre Travels

REVIEWS

Established Naarm theatre maker Beng Oh helms a talented group of creatives to deliver a clear thematic and aesthetic vision. The design elements are delightful, assisting D’s storytelling without distracting and managed to create a remarkable sense of wonder and luxury on an independent budget”.

Theatre Travels

“The annual Midsumma Festival never ceases to amaze audiences with a smorgasbord of colourful shows. And this new show written and performed by Dax Carnay and direction by Beng Oh is no exception; a zesty animated fractured romantic comedy about life as an immigrant trans person of colour.”
