fuel

It’s 2002 and loaded with booze, pills and testosterone, Toad, Fats, Jonno, and Joey hit the highway in Jonno’s car, which he calls “Cowboy.” Soon, however, the boys find themselves in the middle of nowhere – stranded and desperate, the core of their friendship is exposed, which may prove more toxic than the fumes coming outta Cowboy.

Fuel is a story of the poisonous side of mateship, told through 10 monologues from six characters, each with
their own loyalties, secrets and strange versions of the truth, in a solo performance by Marc Opitz.

Written in 2010 for The Store Room at the Parkview Hotel in North Fitzroy, Fuel was premiered in 2026 at The Motley Bauhaus.

REVIEWS

“You should really go see Fuel by me. Not because of me but because Marc Opitz gives an incredible performance and Beng Oh has shaped it into a tight little ball of post 2000s rage…”

Robert Reid

“What really struck me about this is this is not my story. You are just so distant from me and my experiences, but it just felt so real and so – this isn’t early 2000.  This is now.”
